About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Tricks and Treats....

Stretched and straightened into shape,
Coins tossed firmly upon sleepy eye lines.
Pasted, powered and perfectly packaged,
Inclined with stiff resolve and hands entwined.
Glad rags nipped and tucked into a suitability,
Rosy rouged cheeks and pretty pert lips lined.
Positioned into a finality of restful permanence,
A heavily carved casket tinged with personality.
Tears caress the last earthly hours above all else,
Love cascades through the trembling final words.
Parting between this place and deathly darkness,
Scented floral adornments and fluttering ribbons.
A departure marked in tributes as with birth itself,
Significant dates with only the joy of life in-between.

Poets United Mid-Week Prompt: Halloween or Celebrating the Dead…

A Tad Fragile....

Slightly downbeat in mood,
Buoyancy deflated for now.
Bright lights blinding sense,
Distortion grasps the images.
Pulsating pains jab and jive,
Temples stress to contain.
Cowering close to a finality,
Hope sits on faraway horizons.
Tomorrow is beyond tolerance,
Despair twists a sad conscience.
Salty tears slide in their freedom,
Nothingness is the only company.
Decisions hover in a place of limbo,
Consequences await next actions.
Notes of time edge to the surface,
A conscience touched in a moment.
Down but not beyond temptation,
A helping hand steadies resilience.

If I Were....Childlike....

Country roses would still garland the doorways,
Crisp cotton dresses would still look neat and cool.
Every day another dreamy adventure just arrived,
Summer evenings allowed playtime to never end.
Imagination was a best friend who never argued,
Simplicity enjoyed Christmas and birthdays better.
The give-me-now had not been invented back then,
Enjoyment was easily purchased and appreciated.
Yet childhood shielded so much of harsh reality,
Mayhem and murder were foreign and very far away.
The radio told the stories which could be moderated,
No images to upset or to impact on the idyllic of life.
Belief saw only goodness while looking with childish eyes,
The truth hid its nasty words spat behind silent whispers.
Love always hugged everyone with relative frequency,
The foibles and the cracks were not glimpsed at first.
Realisation hits hard with its eventual unfeigned impact,
Naivety wrapped and sheltered within childlike innocence.

Touches of Magic....

It’s a concoction of unknown formula and luck,
Changeable in the array of fortunes distributed.
Success tastes sweet and warms one’s confidence,
More rights than wrongs reassure nervy first steps.
Broken hearts love the comfort of another embrace,
Hugs are never too many in the meeting of emotions.
A few words of surprise say more than a long sermon,
Sincerity seeps through the eyes and into the soul.
Honesty is nurtured in the manner of truthfulness,
Spiritual wellbeing envelops and encourages fervour.
Moments of abject despair and dwindling enthusiasm,
Gradually heartened by promise and a touch of magic.
