About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Changes and Chances....

Life’s pathway and its direction is never rigid,
It toys with our desires and stresses our peace.
Occasionally without prior planning we set out,
Accepting the rewards found and praising luck.
When obstacles obstruct our route we whinge,
And bemoan any stumbling and our misfortunes.
Sometimes there comes a time when we dither,
Commitment can drain enthusiasm beyond repair.
Opportunity beckons towards a brand new sphere,
Fresh chances stretch out like an untouched horizon.
Nervous whirls of discomfort seek to hinder changes,
Zones of known familiarity look invitingly cosy and safe.
Courage is required to bolster decisions of great bravery,
New overtures and altered views enhance life’s journey.

  2. You always speak real truth in your poetry, Eileen, and make me think. Indeed life's pathway is never rigid. And sometimes we can be surprised at its direction. We definitely have to steer clear of that over-commitment, which is so easy to happen to people in this busy age. We have to keep our eyes on the fresh chances that appear...and, really, we never know when one will. We can embrace them at any age. Smiles.

  3. Like beginnings, all changes are difficult and offer their own challenges therefore they do require courage you are right.
"Fresh chances stretch out like an untouched horizon" - this is my favorite line in your great poem, Eileen.

  6. "It toys with our desires and stresses our peace."...it does...desire is the subtle cause of everything that materializes slowly...for this we sometimes taste the sweet fruit of life and sometimes bitter...there cannot be a journey without desire even a desire less pathway is a desire...life is trapped in it....change is good but with the same outcome...
Hope to meet you at other sites and enjoy your words Eileen...and lots of thanks for your insightful reflections on my blog...
