About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Crouching Evil....

Ideologies warped and adapted for perverted actions,
Flags flutter with words of hatred and worlds of threat.
Hidden within fallacies attached to a religious fervour,
This movement of terror laughs into our fearful faces.
Brandishing swords and spitting out venomous chants,
They wilfully degrade and devastate lives without mercy.
Restless in the presence of pleas towards understanding,
Populations humiliated and violated by depraved activities.
Generations forever impacted by this world-wide scourge,
Ethnic cleansing seeks to eradicate inherited traditions.
This vile righteousness contaminates individual opinions,
Promises of power and a richer afterlife attract gullibility.
Foot soldiers prowl desert sands and most city walkways,
This idealism detonates without warning its foreboding.
Droplets of blood trickle upon peaceful sandy beaches,
Evil crouches to devour the vulnerability of all innocence.

A Father's Resentment....

I once had a father, but in his surname only,
He had a daughter, whom he truly despised.
He chastised my eleven-year old exam failure,
With his angry words he ostracized my world.
Thereafter I lived in fear of daily admonishments,
Not always spoken, but glanced in resentment.
I can still feel that hatred for me, at low times,
Eyes pierced my presence in a loathsome way.
He destroyed my childhood with his cold manner,
Not one single photographic memory together.
Holidays and hobbies were for everyone else,
Not a single day spent in a happy family grouping.
I can still see your fingers tapping a cigarette box,
You were a master of armchair politics and rights.
Strangers knew a different you, with your kindness,
It hurt all the more to know you mellowed outside.
Without your earthly being, I have now flourished,
Restoration of self-belief enabled self- fulfilment.
There is sadness and a vacuum in being unloved,
But a daughter’s courage writes these words today.

Time Keeping....

Time can be a conceited devil of a problem,
Snatching opportunities and curtailing plans.
It tolerates lethargy and halcyon day-dreams,
But abruptly draws the curtains on evermore.
Childhood adventures never entertained ends,
There was a sense of this life cruising onwards.
Birthdays used to be fun and wishfully desired,
Too soon decades become three score and ten.
Many horizons of unaccomplished hopes wait,
Busy days and years consume freedom and age.
Sharing experiences between back then and now,
Photographs trigger the instances of fun or tears.
Time is an inflexible master, who seeks accuracy,
It sweeps today towards tomorrow without mercy.
Little wrinkles of irritation appear from no-where,
Grey hairs peep out of place without any warning.
Alarm bells ring when tiptoeing creaks fragile joints,
Remember when we danced through a whole night.
This life is merely a pinpoint in universal existence,
Time keeps watch as we move between generations.

Overtures of Contentment....

Emerging from where darkness collects,
Gloomy drapes hem in temporary moods.
Swathes of lacy veil twitch in the soft air,
Windows wide open embracing another day.
Exchanging the dusts and stresses of angst,
As optimism settles on this new inviting abode.
Between a dawning of heavenly contentment,
And, the setting dusk of this renewed fulfilment.
Perspectives return more pleasant possibilities,
Those bleak notes of threnodic composition fade.
Revived spirits hearken to melodies of jazzy hues,
Feeling good sends ripples from head to tiny toes.
Music applies an emollient to repair broken hopes,
It draws in and relaxes nervous and isolated spirits.
Breathing at ease and without woes strangling life,
Overtures smile at this juncture of melodic welcome.

Sustaining Energies....

Cranking up the starting handle every day,
The old engine has a lethargic splutter now.
Casings and framework slightly weakened,
Years of journeying revealed in this lassitude.
Veins of knowledge strive to remain active,
Literary companionship pleases and rewards.
Politics and worldly pressures infiltrate peace,
Weary of unending hatred and warmongering.
Simplicity of living has eroded in most aspects,
Pace is galloped without seeing the passing view.
Considerations of choice have been lambasted,
Nervous voices mute any discord or discomforts.
The mode is plodding onwards with head down,
New ways rollercoaster previously held practices.
The goodwill of neighbourliness much fragmented,
Methinks life struggles to sustain any magnanimity.
